Exclusive insights into moveLab – our own research department

The moveLab is our hotbed of knowledge. This is where we develop new ideas, get visions up and running for the first time and lay the foundations for the use of new technologies in our day-to-day work. We either finance these projects ourselves or are part of research consortia.

Concept and product developmentWe then either use the pre-developed solutions in our customer projects (concept and product development) or continue to develop them ourselves until they mature into a move technology product (e.g. HYDROGENGALAXY).

We design our products to meet complex market requirements and to be at the forefront of technology. Our customers benefit from our reliable preliminary work: use our products directly – or use them as a basis for integration into their own applications.

AI for the automation of fuel cell stack production

In the production of fuel cells, the process of stacking individual bipolar plates is one of the time and cost drivers: the plates must first be cleaned, then stacked and then tensioned with a defined force. This process is to be automated as part of our ZIM research project.

move technology is responsible for developing an AI-supported quality assurance system for bipolar mats. Image recognition will be used to check whether mechanical production has been carried out correctly and whether there is any residue of cleaning emulsion on the metal surfaces. This inspection is to be used in-line in the production process and has correspondingly high requirements in terms of recognition accuracy and the computing efficiency of the algorithms.

Other consortium partners involved in the project are the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau, the Institut Chemnitzer Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V. and ICS Industriedienstleistungen GmbH.

move technology data gateways (2x on the right) compared with the competition

Data gateway for mobile off-road applications

We are developing a robust, modular data gateway for the tough off-road use of the next generation of climate-friendly fun mobility!

Ready for challenges under demanding conditions, the data gateway is designed to reliably record and evaluate operating and sensor data and upload it to the cloud. WiFi and, for the first time, NB-LTE or LTE-M and satellite communication are used as communication interfaces. This ensures that the valuable data can be sent from any location.

Our proven platform architecture based on moveCore including AI-supported user interaction is used for data analysis. For this, we rely on a novel combination of Large Language Model and text-to-speech.

For electric outdoor vehicles

  • Recording and visualization of driving data
  • Position transmission
  • Lane-dependent range prediction
  • No fear of staying put

For e-bike adventures

  • Recording and visualization of driving data
  • Position transmission
  • Optional coupling with smart gadgets
  • Optional service functions (still secret)

TaskEye: AI text recognition as a retrofit for production machines

Modern production systems are highly complex machines that need to be operated by specially trained specialists. Due to the flexibilization of the labour market, additional assistance for machine operators is required – for example, automated reference to operating instructions.

What is possible for new machines via predefined interfaces turns out to be difficult to solve for older machines. Our idea was to use an industrial camera to observe the screen of machines and perform text recognition in real time using OCR. If errors occur, the AI, or more precisely the Large Language Model (LLM), takes over and provides the user with a human-readable description of the error and the corrective measures. For this purpose, the LLM was trained with the machine’s operating instructions, among other things.

We were able to prove the feasibility of the project and are now ready for customer projects.

Energy container as a zero-emission emergency power generator

The increasing global demand for energy can hardly be met in some parts of the world. We want to bring reliable systems for independent power supply to the market. A special combination of battery storage and hydrogen will be used to ensure a continuous supply.

As a modular system in the 5 – 100 kW power class, we can react to the prevailing boundary and operating conditions. We use our established HyGrid energy simulation for the design. Our data gateways will also be used on the energy containers.

We are currently in the development phase and aim to have the first systems in use as early as 2026.
